“Let’s visit the beach in two days.” A friend of mine raised the idea, and we accepted it.

Then I reflected on an experience I had back in my school days. Bar Beach was mostly the first choice for pupils who wanted an excursion site, apart from places like the museum, trade fair, and so on.

On that fateful day, we started our journey and eventually got to the Eti-Osa area of Lagos State, somewhere around the Abraham Adesanya, Ajah axis. Ajah, Lagos, is home to several beach resorts. As we drove along the street, I wondered why they all seemed to lie horizontally. Apart from knowing that it was a coastal area, I began to meditate on whether this might be due to the vast water bodies appearing in that linear progression.

At last, we arrived at Iceland Beach Resort, where other friends and families had also journeyed to spend some time at the beach. Some came in light clothing that seemed suitable for beachwear, while some of us were in shorts. Some came with food and drinks because food items and drinks are expensive inside the resort, although things were still moderately affordable. Before entry, we paid an access fee and got tagged on the hand

Some of the features I found there were desert rides, a jungle ride, and horse riding. Despite Nigeria being on the watchlist over security concerns, I saw some Indians playing and enjoying themselves on the beach.

Other things I observed were people writing on the shore of the beach. I saw a lady write, “I love Lily.” A few of us wrote prayer requests. Some picked up beach sand, while others got coral shells that had remained on the shore, jokingly calling them gifts.

A taste of this water from the Atlantic Ocean is a salty one. Even if you wash your face with it without drinking it, the salty taste lingers sharply at the tip of the tongue.
