PERILOUS TIMES
They say "business is full of risks." An undertaking meant for human survival is constant. This implies that life itself is not devoid of risks.
In these perilous times, as we try to survive, we have become prudent in many ways; however, these practices have never been new to us.
- Using the last bits of your soap: During hard times, it is not uncommon for some of us to delay buying a new soap immediately. We always want to use the last bit.
- Controlling excessive use of vegetable oil: We often cook with either palm oil or vegetable oil. During tough times, we tend to use less, and even the last pint becomes valuable.
- Exhausting the little fuel in your car: Some of us risk journeys with minimal petrol or engine oil in our cars and generators. Though it may cause engine failure, the need at the time often outweighs the concern.
- Using the residual toothpaste: Running out of toothpaste isn't uncommon. Some cut open the tube to scrape out the last bits, while others resort to alternatives like salt or chewing sticks.
- Becoming your own barber: Many have learned to shave themselves, not only as a skill but also to save costs. This DIY approach helps reduce expenses in tough times.
- Pulling up the threads of the stove: While gas and electric cookers are widely used, some still rely on kerosene stoves. When the flame weakens, pulling up the stove threads becomes a temporary fix until a new one can be purchased.
- Endurance treks: For those who enjoy walking, short distances can seem even shorter during difficult times. Many opt to walk instead of paying for transportation to cut costs.
- Bill payment violators: Struggling to pay electricity bills, some people resort to the "hang and drop" method—using a stick to attach cables to high-tension wires and quickly removing them upon sighting an official.
As life is not a "bed of roses," we have all encountered challenges. These are just a few things people do to survive in perilous times.

Despite these two approaches to learning— theoretical education and skill acquisition —there are different categories of people: some acquire neith...
