Movement occurs when there is a change in position. It is an activity that happens in almost every aspect of our lives. The metamorphosis from the fertilization of the human egg to the development of a baby is achieved through movement. The planets rotate in orbit, and the Earth spins around an imaginary axis running from the North Pole to the South Pole. This takes approximately 24 hours, which is why we experience a complete cycle of day and night within that period.

Things That Move

All living things move except plants, which are somewhat stationary because their roots are fixed in the ground. Water moves from the roots through the stem to the leaves of plants; some leaves fold and open, while branches and leaves are whirled by the wind. Animals move in search of shelter and food, as well as for other reasons behind human movement.

Things That Don't Move

Certainly, inanimate objects are lifeless and don't move—examples include books, plates, and wooden beds.
