Nigeria, a country in West Africa, is made up of six geopolitical zones: South-South, South-West, South-East, North-East, North-West, and North-Central. Weather conditions vary across these regions due to several factors:

Factors Influencing Nigeria's Climate

  1. Latitude and location: Nigeria spans from the tropical rainforest in the south to the semi-arid Sahel in the north. This variation in latitude affects temperature, humidity, and rainfall levels.
  2. Proximity to water bodies: The Atlantic Ocean influences the climate of coastal areas like Lagos and Port Harcourt, bringing frequent rainfall and humidity.
  3. Altitude: Higher-altitude areas such as the Mambilla Plateau and Jos Plateau have cooler and more temperate climates compared to lowlands.
  4. Vegetation and land use: Different vegetation zones (rainforest, savanna, and Sahel) influence local climate. Dense rainforests retain moisture and regulate temperature, while open savanna and Sahel contribute to hotter, drier conditions.
